Kentucky 8 Indiana 7
All-American Josh Phegley, Big Ten batting leader Jerrud Sabourin and Tyler Rogers all had three hits for the Hoosiers, but it wasn't enough as UK prevailed. The issues that were a concern for IU before the year began -- pitching and defense -- continue to plague the Hoosiers. They kicked four more chances yesterday.
Penn State 18 Florida Gulf Coast 16
Another slugfest between these two. PSU's Mike Deese, Cory Wine and Blake Lynd all drove in three to pace the Nittany Lions. SS Michael Glantz was 4 for 5 with four runs scored and two RBI.
Purdue 12 Butler 3
Freshman Barrett Serrato's two hits and three RBI led the Boilermakers' charge. All-Big Ten 2B Ben Wolgamot also had a pair of hits, RBIs and stolen bases. Joe Haase got the win in relief.
(#21) Clemson 6 Michigan State 1
Six Clemson hurlers combined to hold the Spartans to just four hits. Tigers' 2B Mike Freeman had just as many for Clemson, going 4 for 4. LF Boyd Wilson drove in three Clemson runs. Jeff Holm scored the lone Spartans' tally in the ninth.
