More Friday Finals

Phil Haig improved to 3-0 leading Illinois to a 10-1 win over Akron. Haig went six surrendering eight hits, one walk and one earned run. Willie Argo, Aaron Johnson and Pete Cappetta all get two hits. Argo drives in two.

To the north, Eric Jokisch tossed a complete game four-hitter as Northwestern trumped Illinois-Chicago, 9-2. Jokisch yielded two runs, only one earned, four walks and struck out six Flames. Jokisch is now 2-0. The star with the bat was freshmen 2B Trevor Stevens. Stevens collected three hits, including first homer, and five RBI. Four other Wildcats had two hits including Tony Vercelli who also went yard.

Remember when Pitt snuck out to that early lead vs. Ohio State? Well, the Buckeyes were held silent until the bottom of the third. They managed one run in that inning and followed it by plating two in the fourth, three in the fifth, five in the sixth, two in the seventh and topping it all off with seven in the bottom of the eighth. The final? OSU 20 Pitt 3.

Buckeyes' RBI-machine Justin Miller drove in five on three hits. Michael Stephens and Cory Kovanda also had three hits a piece. Zach Hurley had two hits and three RBI. Alex Wimmers threw a complete game victory. Wimmers allowed three runs on six hits and two walks. Are you sitting? Wimmers also K'd 15 Panthers. 15. (I can guess the clubhouse leader for Big Ten Pitcher of the Week. Of course, Bischoff fanned 12. Okay, maybe it isn't quite as clear.)

Alas, the happy news must end. MSU dropped the backend of their twinbill with Quinnipiac, 4-2. Chris Roberts' two hits paced the Spartans. Jeff Holm and Jonathan Roof had the RBIs.

Our final game of the day is taking place in the desert, where Arizona is up, 1-0, on (#25) Michigan. It's the fourth inning at AZ. Kevin Cislo already has a pair of hits for the Wolverines. (There's also a rumor that College Baseball Today's Eric Sorenson might be at Kindall Field this evening. You didn't hear that from me, of course.)
