Why is Michigan on the road in the Super Regionals after knocking off #1 overall Vandy? I'd hope they'd have earned a home tourney.

Are selection guidelines on ncaasports.com anywhere or "known" like basketball bracketology guidelines?

As I understand it, Michigan didn't put in a bid for the Super Regional. Seeing what's going on at The Fish -- the press box is completely gone -- that's not a big surprise.

Chuck has got the core issue correct -- The Fish is under serious construction. The university didn't even put in a bid to host.

Although, I have a feeling that even if The Fish was available, Oregon State still might be the host as they are the defending champions.

As I understand the process, it's a bit like hosting a convention. The NCAA has some minimum requirements (lights, seating, etc...) and the schools have to submit an application to host.

They tend to favor schools with the combination of best facilities/best team. You have to be a one or two seed to really have a chance to host.

It's a bit like bowl games that take the teams that "travel best", the NCAA likes to make sure the regionals are well attended. That means a good team with a strong following, which often translates into better facilities.

While this clearly leans towards the traditional powers, northern schools are getting some opportunities to host.

I'm sure when the new stadium in Ann Arbor is complete, U of M will get the chance to host a regional.
