Texas Photos

As Joanna was kind enough to link Sam's photos, I think it's only appropriate to link her handiwork, as well. Our favorite Texas fan took some photos of the Nebraska/Texas game. Good stuff. (Sorry, about the result, though, J.)

I've really got to get to work on finding a home for some of BTH's (and my old site's) photos.

Thanks for the link. I've still got quite a few photos to post. They're supposedly replacing the turf with grass when they start the stadium renovations (as soon as the season is over). Next year, we'll have pretty green grass in the photos! Woo hoo!

As I looked at the photos I was thinking that your guys really should have grass, not turf. Glad to hear they are making the change.

Heh. 'Turns out that was wishful thinking about the turf. They're not gonna change it 'til it wears out. And, even then, there's no guarantee that they'll change it. There are several reasons for sticking with turf. The field is used very heavily: all of UT's games (usually including a Regional and a Super Regional tournament), state high school play-offs, and summer camps. So, grass hasn't been a good option. We almost never lose a home game due to rain 'cause they can play within an hour after a heavy rain. With new subsurface technologies, that's not as much of an issue these days. But there's the usage thing. If they put in grass, the team has to find somewhere else to practice and host camps. We're rather land-locked at the moment so a practice field would either take away parking used by students during the week and fans on the weekends or move off-campus. Moving away from campus would take practice or study time away from the student athletes since they'd have to waste time getting to and from the practice venue. The baseball program gets quite a bit of revenue from the camps and that money would have to be made up somewhere. This is football country and money for baseball is rather hard to come by. So, we'll see. But it will be at least a few more years before we lose the turf. Heck, we still had turf in the football stadium up until 1999 or 2000. Ah well. We will get a pretty facade and some sky boxes. And they probably won't put a new roof over the stands after they put the sky boxes in so we'll lose the shade. Which will suck when it's 95 degrees out with 80% humidity in May. And, I'm sure the price of the tickets won't go up, right? Wrong? Dang.
