Minnesota beat St. Thomas, 9-2, yesterday. Matt Nohelty, Dan Lyons and Derek McCallum each had a two hits for the Gophers. Sophomore CF Nohelty also swiped a pair of bases. Starter Allen Bechstein lasted three innings -- not yielding a run or hit -- and picked up the win. The Golden Gophers improve to 6-2.
Unfortunately, Michigan State's (3-4) midweek performance came up a bit short. The Spartans lost to Stetson, 13-7. MSU freshman RF Eli Boike, who continues to emerge as one of the conference's top newcomers, had a 4 for 5 game. Boike also scored twice and drove in two more Spartan scores. 1B Evan Friedland had a three hit game.
The Spartans are currently trailing South Florida, 12-5. It's the seventh inning. I doubt I'll have a link to the game recap this evening, so look for it tomorrow. I can tell MSU fans that Justin Potes and Dennis Jones each have two RBI. E.J. Daws has three hits.
