IU Wins, MSU Stumbles

Indiana shutout Butler, 6-0, today. IU's fabulous freshmen continue to lead the charge. C Josh Phegley pounded out three hits, all doubles. The first year Hoosiers' backstop also scored once and drove in a pair of tallies. 2B Evan Crawford collected two more hits and scored once.

Chris McCombs started for IU (4-4) and went six innings allowing seven hits. McCombs didn't yield a run or a walk and fanned five Bulldog batters. The junior righthander improved his record to 1-1.

In a game from yesterday, Michigan State fell to Central Florida, 7-5. The Spartans (3-3) offense was led by 3B Justin Potes and 2B Steve Gerstenberger who each had three hits. DH Sean Walker drove in two for MSU.

Central Florida's Carmine Giardina struck out ten Spartans in six innings and earned the win. For me, the most interesting stat line came from Golden Knights' CF Tyson Auer. Auer did not record a hit and had only one official at bat, but scored once, drove in one, walked four times and stole four bases.
